Clonazepam is used to treat or prevent seizures, panic attacks, and sleep disorders by stimulating the release of gamma-amino-butyric acid (GABA), which controls electrical disturbances in the brain. Common side effects include fatigue, dizziness, depression, and memory impairment, which usually do not need medical attention. However, seek medical advice if you experience breathing difficulty, excessive drowsiness, hallucinations, behavioral changes, or suicidal thoughts.
Clonazepam can be taken with or without food but should be taken exactly as prescribed due to its addiction risk. It is not recommended for patients with kidney or liver problems and may not be safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless the benefits outweigh the risks. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Due to dizziness as a side effect, avoid driving or activities requiring concentration. Do not consume alcohol while taking Clonazepam, as it may increase dizziness and drowsiness.
