Ispaghula Husk is used to treat:
- Constipation
- Indigestion
Ispaghula Husk contains Ispaghula husk, a dietary fibre derived from the seed coat of the plant Plantago ovata Forssk.
- Granules/Powder: Dissolve the contents in a full glass of water or other liquids as suggested by your doctor, stir thoroughly, and drink immediately, preferably after meals. If left to stand, the mixture may become too thick; add more liquid if necessary.
- Capsule: Take the capsule as directed by your physician. Swallow it whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break it.
- Wafers: Chew the wafer thoroughly before swallowing.
- Drink/Liquid: Shake the bottle well before use. Measure the recommended dose using the measuring cup/dosing syringe/dropper provided with the pack.
Generally, Ispaghula Husk is safe to use, but some may experience:
- Wind (flatulence)
- Bloating due to sudden increase in fiber intake
- Skin rash, runny or itchy nose if exposed to the husks on the skin or through inhalation
Contraindications
- Stomach or intestinal blockage
- Appendicitis
- Swallowing problems
- Rectal bleeding
- Diabetes
- Phenylketonuria (increased levels of phenylalanine)
- Reduced bowel movements
- Ispaghula Husk must be taken with enough liquid to prevent difficulty swallowing, chest pain, and vomiting.
- Consult a doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Not recommended for children below six years of age.
- Intake of probiotics, prebiotics, and plenty of fluids is recommended for those suffering from indigestion.
