Finapark is a monoamine oxidase type B (MAO-B) inhibitor indicated as an adjunctive treatment to levodopa/carbidopa in patients with Parkinson’s disease experiencing “off” episodes. It is not effective as a monotherapy for Parkinson’s disease
The exact mechanism of action of Safinamide Mesylate in Parkinson’s disease is not fully understood. Safinamide Mesylate inhibits monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B), which prevents the breakdown of dopamine, resulting in increased dopamine levels and enhanced dopaminergic activity in the brain.
There is limited experience with Safinamide overdose. If an overdose occurs, discontinue treatment and provide supportive care, including dietary restriction of tyramine for several weeks.
