Folic OS OS is indicated for the treatment and prevention of:
- Folic acid deficiency
- Megaloblastic anemia
- Anemia due to poor nutrition, during pregnancy, infancy, or childhood
Folic acid, an inactive form, is transformed into active forms—tetrahydrofolic acid and methyltetrahydrofolate—by the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR). These active forms are essential for:
- DNA and RNA synthesis (purine & thymidylate)
- Red blood cell formation (erythropoiesis)
- Amino acid metabolism
- tRNA methylation
- Lowering homocysteine levels (via methionine synthesis, with the help of Vitamin B12)
