Itracare SB 65 mg belongs to the antifungal drug class. It acts by inhibiting the growth of fungi and is indicated for treating fungal infections affecting the mouth, throat, vagina, skin, fingernails, and toenails. The medication works by compromising the fungal cell membrane integrity, leading to fungal death.
Itraconazole inhibits fungal cytochrome P450–dependent enzymes, thereby blocking ergosterol synthesis, an essential component of fungal cell membranes. This disrupts membrane integrity, resulting in fungal cell death. It is active against a wide spectrum of fungi, including Candida, Aspergillus, Trichophyton, Microsporum, and Histoplasma species, as well as Leishmania (antiprotozoal action).
