This medicine combines two active ingredients:
- Flupentixol – a low-dose antipsychotic that has anti-anxiety and antidepressant effects.
- Melitracen – a tricyclic antidepressant that helps improve mood, energy, and motivation.
Together, they provide antidepressant, anti-anxiety, and activating effects, helping patients feel less anxious and more emotionally balanced.

- Seek medical attention if you experience severe mood changes, suicidal thoughts, or unusual behavioral changes.
- Be careful when driving or operating machinery until you know how the medicine affects you.
Flupentixol and Melitracen are a combination medicine used to treat various mood and anxiety-related conditions. It is commonly prescribed for anxiety, depression, apathy, psychogenic depression, depressive neurosis, masked depression, psychosomatic disorders associated with anxiety and lack of motivation, menopausal depression, and depressive symptoms in people with alcohol or drug dependence.
- Adults: Usually 1 tablet twice daily (morning and noon).
- In more severe cases, the morning dose may be increased as advised by a physician.
- Elderly patients: Usually 1 tablet in the morning.
- Maintenance therapy: Often 1 tablet daily in the morning.
Dosage should always follow a doctor’s recommendation.
Side effects are generally uncommon at recommended doses but may include:
- Restlessness
- Difficulty sleeping (insomnia)
- Dizziness
- Drowsiness or reduced alertness
Use cautiously if you have:
- Liver disease
- Thyroid disorders
- Serious heart disease
- Urinary problems
- Diabetes (monitor blood sugar regularly)
Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine because it can increase drowsiness and other central nervous system effects.
This medicine may interact with:
- Alcohol
- Barbiturates and other sedatives
- MAO inhibitors (should not be used within 14 days of MAOI therapy)
- Certain blood pressure medicines such as guanethidine
- Adrenaline and noradrenaline
It should not be used in patients with:
- Recent myocardial infarction (heart attack)
- Bundle branch conduction defects
- Untreated narrow-angle glaucoma
- Acute alcohol, opioid, or barbiturate intoxication
- Recent use of MAO inhibitors
Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding is generally not recommended unless specifically advised by a healthcare professional.
