Limbix Amitriptyline Hydrochloride + Chlordiazepoxide | 12.5 mg+5 mg combines two active ingredients with complementary effects:
- Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant that increases the levels of serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain by blocking their reuptake. This helps improve mood and relieve depressive symptoms.
- Chlordiazepoxide is a benzodiazepine that enhances the action of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), an inhibitory neurotransmitter. This reduces excessive nerve activity, producing calming, sedative, and anti-anxiety effects.
Limbix is used to treat moderate to severe depression that occurs alongside moderate to severe anxiety. It may help improve symptoms such as insomnia, feelings of guilt or worthlessness, agitation, emotional and physical anxiety, suicidal thoughts, and loss of appetite. Many patients may begin to notice improvement within the first week of treatment.
The appropriate dosage depends on the severity of symptoms and the individual patient’s response to treatment.
- Treatment is typically started with 3 to 4 tablets daily in divided doses.
- Once symptoms improve, the dose should be reduced to the lowest effective amount needed to maintain symptom control.
- A larger portion of the daily dose may be taken at bedtime, and some patients may achieve adequate control with a single nightly dose.

Drug Interactions
Due to its amitriptyline component, Limbix may reduce or block the blood pressure-lowering effects of guanethidine and similar antihypertensive medications.
Contraindications
Limbix should not be used in patients who:
- Are allergic to amitriptyline, chlordiazepoxide, benzodiazepines, tricyclic antidepressants, or any ingredient in the product.
- Are currently taking or have recently taken monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).
Side Effects
Common side effects:
- Drowsiness
- Dry mouth
- Constipation
- Blurred vision
- Dizziness
- Bloating
Less common side effects:
- Vivid dreams
- Tremors
- Nasal congestion
- Confusion
- Impotence
Some symptoms commonly associated with depression, such as fatigue, weakness, restlessness, lethargy, and loss of appetite, may also occur during treatment.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
The safety of Limbix during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established. Women who are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding should consult their healthcare provider before using this medication.
Precautions and Warnings
- Use cautiously in patients with a history of seizures.
- Close monitoring is recommended in patients with hyperthyroidism or those receiving thyroid hormone therapy.
- Patients with kidney or liver impairment should be treated carefully and monitored regularly.
- Children and adolescents receiving antidepressants should be closely observed for worsening depression, suicidal thoughts, or unusual behavioral changes.
- Avoid alcohol and other substances that may increase drowsiness unless approved by a healthcare provider.

Overdose
Overdose of Limbix can be serious and potentially fatal.
Signs of Amitriptyline overdose may include:
- Severe low blood pressure
- Abnormal heart rhythms
- Seizures
- Profound central nervous system depression
- Coma
Signs of Chlordiazepoxide overdose may include:
- Excessive sleepiness
- Confusion
- Reduced reflexes
- Coma
Withdrawal Effects
Abrupt discontinuation may cause withdrawal symptoms.
Chlordiazepoxide withdrawal symptoms:
- Tremors
- Sweating
- Vomiting
- Muscle cramps
- Abdominal cramps
- Convulsions in severe cases
Amitriptyline withdrawal symptoms:
- Headache
- Nausea
- Malaise
- Sleep disturbances
