Description

Linax Plus 2.5/850 contains Linagliptin and Metformin Hydrochloride, which work through complementary mechanisms to control blood glucose levels.

  • Linagliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor that prolongs the action of incretin hormones such as GLP-1 and GIP. These hormones increase insulin release from pancreatic beta cells and reduce glucagon secretion, helping lower blood sugar in a glucose-dependent manner.
  • Metformin belongs to the biguanide class and reduces hepatic glucose production, decreases intestinal glucose absorption, and improves insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues.

Together, these medicines help control both fasting and post-meal blood sugar levels.

Linax Plus 2.5/850 is prescribed as an adjunct to diet and exercise for improving blood glucose control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It combines two antidiabetic agents to help maintain stable blood sugar levels and may lower the risk of diabetes-related complications such as kidney disease, vision problems, heart attack, and stroke. It may be used alone or alongside other antidiabetic medications.
Linax Plus 2.5/850 should be taken exactly as prescribed by the physician and preferably with meals to minimize gastrointestinal side effects associated with metformin.

  • Immediate-release tablets
    • Patients not previously taking metformin: 2.5 mg/500 mg twice daily
    • Patients already taking metformin: dosage should be based on the existing metformin regimen
    • Maximum dose: 2.5 mg/1000 mg twice daily
  • Extended-release tablets
    • Usually taken once daily with food
    • Maximum recommended daily dose: Linagliptin 5 mg and Metformin 2000 mg

Dose adjustments should be individualized according to blood glucose response and tolerability.
Take the tablet whole with food at the same time every day. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet. Consistent use along with proper diet and exercise helps achieve better blood sugar control.
If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular schedule. Do not take a double dose.
