Linax Plus is a fixed-dose combination of linagliptin and metformin hydrochloride, used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve blood glucose control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when both components are appropriate for therapy.
Linagliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor that enhances glycemic control in type 2 diabetes. It works by blocking the enzyme dipeptidyl peptidase-4, which normally breaks down incretin hormones such as GLP-1 and GIP. By increasing active incretin levels, it promotes glucose-dependent insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells and reduces glucagon release from alpha cells.
Metformin hydrochloride is a biguanide oral antidiabetic agent that lowers blood glucose without causing hypoglycemia. It acts by reducing hepatic glucose production, decreasing intestinal glucose absorption, and improving insulin sensitivity through increased peripheral glucose uptake and utilization.
