Budesonide:
- An anti-inflammatory corticosteroid with potent glucocorticoid and weak mineralocorticoid activity.
- Reduces airway inflammation by inhibiting multiple inflammatory cells and mediators.
Formoterol:
- Long-acting, selective β2-agonist.
- Stimulates adenyl cyclase → increases cyclic AMP → relaxes bronchial smooth muscle and inhibits mediator release from mast cells.
Oxycort – Formoterol Fumarate & Budesonide Inhalation
Asthma (≥12 years):
- Maintenance treatment of asthma.
- Not intended for relief of acute asthma attacks.
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD):
- Twice-daily maintenance treatment of airflow obstruction in patients with COPD, including chronic bronchitis and emphysema.
- The inhalation capsule is the approved formulation for COPD maintenance.
