Description

Palimax ER 3 is an extended-release atypical antipsychotic (paliperidone) used mainly for schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder.

Paliperidone is the active metabolite of risperidone.

Mechanism:

  • Antagonizes serotonin (5-HT2A) and dopamine (D2) receptors, improving mood, thought, and behavior.
  • Antagonizes α1-, α2-adrenergic and H1-histaminic receptors.
  • Minimal/absent affinity for muscarinic, β1, and β2 receptors.

Effect: Improves positive and negative symptoms of psychoses, reduces risk of extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS).
