Prucalopride is prescribed for the treatment of chronic idiopathic constipation in adults. This condition is characterized by:
- Difficult or incomplete passage of stools.
- Infrequent stools lasting 3 months or longer.
- Not caused by any underlying disease or medication.
Not recommended for individuals under 18 due to insufficient safety and effectiveness data.
Prulax 1 contains Prucalopride, a gastrointestinal prokinetic agent used to treat chronic constipation in adults where conventional treatments (like laxatives) have been ineffective. Constipation is characterized by infrequent, hard, or painful bowel movements.
Prucalopride works by activating specific receptors in the intestinal walls (5-HT4 receptors). This stimulates contractions in the walls of the intestine, increasing the frequency of bowel movements and relieving constipation.
Prulax 1 is contraindicated in:
- Patients undergoing renal dialysis.
- Those with perforation or obstruction of the gut wall.
- Patients with severe inflammation of the intestinal tract, such as Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, or toxic megacolon/megarectum.
- Patients who have recently undergone bowel surgery.
Use Prulax 1 with caution in patients with:
- Heart disease.
- Serious lung disease.
- Severe kidney or liver disease.
Pregnancy: Not recommended for use. Breastfeeding: Not recommended due to lack of sufficient safety data.
Prulax 1 is not recommended for use in children or adolescents under 18 years of age.
