Renustat is a first-in-class, orally administered medication that inhibits HIF-PH (Hypoxia-Inducible Factor Prolyl Hydroxylase). It enhances erythropoiesis (production of red blood cells) by stimulating endogenous erythropoietin production and improving iron regulation. It also helps to overcome the EPO-suppressive effects caused by inflammation, leading to improved hemoglobin synthesis and red blood cell production by downregulating hepcidin levels, a key regulator of iron metabolism.
Indications: Renustat is indicated for the treatment of symptomatic anemia associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD) in adult patients. It is used to improve hemoglobin levels in these patients, especially when anemia becomes symptomatic.
