Rivadem 1.5 functions by inhibiting cholinesterase enzymes responsible for breaking down acetylcholine, a key neurotransmitter involved in memory and learning. By preventing its breakdown, the medicine increases acetylcholine levels in the brain, thereby improving communication between nerve cells and helping to relieve symptoms of dementia.
Avoid using Rivadem 1.5mg if:
- You are allergic to Rivastigmine or other carbamate derivatives (e.g., meprobamate)
- You are already using another formulation of Rivastigmine (e.g., transdermal patch)
- You are taking beta-blockers like acebutolol, atenolol, betaxolol, bisoprolol, as these may interact with Rivadem 1.5
- Your dementia is not related to Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease
- You are scheduled for surgery — notify your doctor, as this medicine may interact with anesthesia
