Fluocinolone Acetonide is a topical corticosteroid used to relieve itching and inflammation associated with skin conditions that respond to corticosteroid treatment (corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses). These include eczema, psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, and other inflammatory skin disorders.
It works by:
- Reducing the release of inflammatory chemicals (mediators) that cause swelling, redness, and itching.
- Constricting blood vessels, which limits the movement of immune cells to the affected site, thereby reducing irritation and discomfort.
Fluocinolone Acetonide is prescribed for:
- Inflammatory skin conditions – Redness, swelling, itching, scaling, dryness, and discomfort in corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses.
- Eczema (Atopic Dermatitis) – Relief from persistent itching and inflammation.
- Psoriasis – Reduces redness, scaling, and plaque formation.
- Contact Dermatitis – Soothes allergic or irritant-induced skin reactions.
- Seborrheic Dermatitis – Controls scaling, redness, and itching, especially in oily areas (scalp, face).
- Prurigo – Alleviates itching and raised lesions.
- Lichen Planus – Relieves swelling and irritation of the skin and oral lesions.
- Discoid Lupus Erythematosus (DLE) – Manages localised lesions as part of treatment.
