Flucloxacillin is a penicillin-type antibiotic used to treat a broad range of bacterial infections, including:
- Pneumonia, meningitis, and endocarditis
- Tonsillitis, sinusitis, and septicemia
- Burns, wounds, abscesses, boils, and staphylococcal skin infections
- Infected eczema, acne, and soft tissue infections
- Osteomyelitis, enteritis, and surgical prophylaxis
Dosage & Administration | FlucloxÂ
💊 Adults (including elderly):
- Oral: 250–500 mg 3–4 times daily (on an empty stomach, ½–1 hr before meals).
- IV: 0.25–1 g 4 times daily; in severe cases, the dose may be doubled.
- Osteomyelitis: up to 8 g/day (3–4 divided doses).
- Endocarditis: up to 8 g/day (patients <85 kg) or 12 g/day (patients >85 kg).
👶 Children:
- Oral: 12.5–25 mg/kg 4 times daily.
- IV (2–10 years): half adult dose.
- IV (<2 years): one-fourth adult dose.
🧪 Renal Impairment:
- CrCl <10 mL/min → dosage adjustment required.
💉 Reconstitution (for injection/infusion):
- Dissolve 250–500 mg in 5–10 mL WFI.
- Dissolve 1 g in 15–20 mL WFI.
- For IV infusion: further dilute with NaCl 0.9%, glucose 5%, or NaCl 0.18% with glucose 4%.
