Panpro is indicated for conditions where suppression of gastric acid secretion is beneficial, including:
- Peptic ulcer disease
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
- Ulcers induced by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
- Eradication of Helicobacter pylori (in combination with antibiotics)
- Zollinger–Ellison Syndrome
Pantoprazole is a potent proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that blocks the final step of gastric acid production. It works by covalently binding to the H⁺/K⁺-ATPase enzyme on the surface of gastric parietal cells, thereby inhibiting both basal and stimulated acid secretion. This effect is independent of the stimulus and lasts for over 24 hours.
